Now, Sir, I have about 17 years Police Service in Glasgow and Hong-Kong, during that period I have been reported once for gossiping on duty. My Police Services in Hong-Kong are probably better known to yourself, Sir, than to any one else in the Colony. I think the services rendered by me during the Plague of 1894 exceeded that of any other European of my rank in the Colony, being specially mentioned in the report issued by the Plague Permanent Committee.

In connection with the Coolie strike in 1895, I worked day and night for 3 months inducing the head coolies to register their houses as common lodgings, result nearly 600 keepers registered during that period.

In conclusion, Sir, I will only add that as I am entirely innocent of receiving any money from those houses, I consider it extremely hard if I have to forfeit 10 years service, and I therefore trust that you will still see your way to re-consider my case and allow me to return to resume the duties which in the face of many oppositions & temptations, I have faithfully & honourably performed for the period of 10 years in the Colony. And if after perusing this imperfect explanation you should still consider me unworthy of my place in the Police Service, would you kindly assist me, Sir, in getting some other appointment in the Colony.
